Drug information such as the National Drug Code (NDC) number, unit count (UC), and unit of measure (UM) can be entered in the Procedure record or directly in the encounter at the service line level for claims billing purposes.
Enter Drug Information in the Procedure
Additional drug information related to the NDC number such as the unit of measure and unit count can be entered in the appropriate fields of the Procedure record.
Note: When submitting claims for these procedures, contact the payer to verify the required drug information to prevent rejections.
- Create or edit a procedure. The New Procedure or Edit Procedure window opens.
- Under the Drug Information section:
- Drug Name: The name of the drug.
- NDC Number: Enter the 11-digit NDC number (excluding hyphens).
- Unit of measure: Click the drop-down arrow to select the unit of measure.
Note: The MCG and MG qualifiers are only accepted on paper claims.
- Unit count: Enter the unit count.
- Click Save.
Repeat the steps as needed for any additional procedures. Once finished, log out and back into the Desktop Application (PM) to see the changes when entering procedures in an Encounter or Procedure Macro.

Enter Drug Information in the Encounter
Drug information such as NDC number, UC, and UM can be entered directly in the encounter at the service line level.
Note: Contact the payer to verify the required drug information to prevent claim rejections.
- Create or edit an encounter. The New Encounter or Edit Encounter window opens.
- Under the Procedures section, click Customize. The Customization pop-up window opens.
Note: The Customize button may not display if the encounter layout and fields were previously customized. If the button is not displayed, right click in the Procedures section and select Customize.
- Scroll down the list to locate NDC then drag and drop to the desired location in the Procedures section. The NDC, UC, and UM columns display.
- Enter the service line information with the appropriate drug information.
Note: The Units amount would account for the total dosage administered to the patient (e.g., 2 Units with UC of 1 means 2 dosages were administered to the patient).
- NDC: Enter the 11-digit NDC number (excluding hyphens).
- UC: Enter the unit count (e.g., if 1 vial is 1 mL, the UC is 1).
- UM: Enter the unit of measure (e.g., if 1 vial is 1 mL, the UM is ML).
Note: The MCG and MG qualifiers are only accepted on paper claims.
- Complete the encounter as necessary and save or approve it.
