Vital Reference Ranges

Updated: 06/29/2023|Views: 1126

Vital signs are measures of a body's most basic functions. They are useful in detecting or monitoring medical problems. As such, there are ranges to identify normal and abnormal conditions for each vital. Anything outside of these ranges will trigger a message asking if the value entered is correct. A user has the opportunity to correct the vital or continue without making a change.

Review the Adult Vitals or Pediatrics Vitals tables for the reference ranges.

Access Patient Vitals

  1. Enter the first 2–3 letters of the patient's name or date of birth (mm/dd/yyyy) in the top navigation bar search box.
  2. Click to select the patient from the auto-populated results. The patient's Facesheet page opens.
  3. Click Vitals. The Vitals page opens.
  4. Click + Vitals. The New Vitals pop-up window opens.

Review Vitals

  1. Enter patient vitals and click Save when finished. A warning message displays when a value may be outside of normal range.
  2. Review the recorded vitals and determine how to proceed:
    • If there an error, make the necessary corrections.
    • If the patient's out of range vitals are correct, continue without making changes.
  3. Click Save when finished.
