Patient chart messages streamlines communication by centralizing messages in the patient's profile, boosting healthcare delivery and administrative efficiency, as well as, ensuring timely and consistent patient interactions, increasing satisfaction and strengthening relationships. System Administrators can enable Chart Messages for all practice users to view patient's complete message history (e.g., texts, emails, staff and secure portal messages) from within their chart.
Access Patient Messages
Enable Chart Messages before proceeding.
- Enter the first 2–3 letters of the patient's name or date of birth (mm/dd/yyyy) in the top navigation bar search box.
- Click to select the patient from the auto-populated results. The patient's Facesheet page opens.
- Click Messages. The Message History pop-up window opens.

Navigate Patient Messages
- New Message: Click to send a new message to staff member(s) or the patient.
- Message: Click a message to view the message details.
Note:
- Replies to messages are limited to conversation participants only.
- The message preview displays the most recent message.
- Messages with multiple participants in the conversation are grouped into one thread with the newest message at the bottom.
- See All: When applicable, click to view all participant names that are too long to display in the message list and/or message preview.
- Reply: If applicable, enter a reply to the message. Then, click Send Message to send the reply.
Note: Do not include PHI in replies to the patient's emails or text messages as these methods are non-secure. Only replies to patient portal messages can include sensitive information.
