Billing General Improvements

  • Providers that submit Medicare eligibility transactions through Tebra must ensure their Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Eligibility Transaction System (HETS) enrollment email address is correct. Beginning December 1, 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will reject HETS eligibility transactions associated with an NPI if enrollment-related emails have been undeliverable for three consecutive months. Visit the CMS website for more information about HIPAA Eligibility Transaction System (HETS).
Note: No action is required if the HETS enrollment email address is already current and receiving communications.
  • Tebra was updated with:
    • The new and revised Proprietary Laboratory Analyses (PLA) codes that go into effect October 1, 2026. Visit the AMA website for more general information about the PLA Codes.
    • HCPCs (Level I and II) and Medicare Fee Schedule (RVU, GPCI, Locality and Conversion Factor) updates. Visit the CMS website for more general information about HCPCS and Fee Schedules.
  • To help prevent avoidable rejections, encounters now have a Claim Review feature that checks for validation errors during creation and/or approval, so billers can correct them prior to submission.
Note: Feature is only available for encounters with the Professional (CMS-1500) claim format.
