Electronic Prescribing

MIPS eligible clinicians must generate and transmit permissible prescriptions electronically. At least one permissible prescription written by the MIPS eligible clinician is transmitted electronically using CEHRT.

Attestation: Report denominator and numerator
Denominator: Number of prescriptions written for drugs requiring a prescription in order to be dispensed during the performance period.
Numerator: The number of prescriptions in the denominator generated AND transmitted electronically using CEHRT.
  • Medications are prescribed from a note or from medications in the patient’s chart. 
Exclusion: Any MIPS eligible clinician who writes fewer than 100 permissible prescriptions during the performance period.
  • Exclusion must be indicated in the Exclusions box on the Promoting Interoperability Dashboard
  • If an exclusion is claimed, the points will be redistributed evenly to the Health Information Exchange measures.
