Navigate Clinical Recommendations

Updated: 08/21/2024|Views: 2241

The clinical recommendations is provided by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and retrieves up-to-date recommendations from the US Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) database for the effectiveness of a broad range of clinical preventative services, including screening, counseling and preventative medications.

Each recommendation is based on a review of the patient's record that includes age, gender, pregnancy status, tobacco use status, and sexual activity status. The recommendation is linked to a letter grade that reflects the magnitude of net benefit and the strength of the evidence supporting the provision of the specific preventative service. The AHRQ recommendations are graded as:

  • A: High certainty that the net benefit is substantial.
  • B: High certainty that the net benefit is moderate or there is moderate certainty that the net benefit is moderate to substantial.

The recommendations made by the USPSTF are intended for use in primary care settings. The USPSTF realizes clinical decision-making with patients involves more complex considerations than the evidence alone. It is important that clinicians understand the evidence, but also that the decision-making be tailored to the specific patient and situation. The Clinical Considerations tab of each USPSTF Recommendation Statement offers information to be used by clinicians as they put the recommendations into practice with individual patients.

Note: The USPSTF Recommendation must be enabled to display on the patient's facesheet.
